THE AGE GOOD FOOD GUIDE 2009

For 2009 we are thrilled to maintain our status as a ‘One Hat’ restaurant as awarded by The Age Good Food Guide. We are proud to receive our seventh consecutive ‘One Hat’ rating since we opened, and to be among one of only twelve recipients in Country Victoria for 2009.


A Chef’s Hat awarded by The Age Good Food Guide is one of the most recognised awards in the restaurant industry, and not awarded injudiciously. A team of anonymous, professional reviewers and food writers travel state wide searching for Victoria’s best dining experiences. Pettavel was awarded a ’One Hat’ score of 15/20 for 2009.


Pettavel's staff are passionate about what they do and endeavour to exceed guests expectations, providing efficient and unobtrusive service and serving distinctly local, vibrant food, to maintain the high standard that Pettavel is recognised for.


The 2009 review comments included: “What’s not to love about Pettavel’s leisurely lunch, by now a gastronomic fixture in the Geelong District? Deservedly so, because this winery restaurant is an attractive package of thoughtfully cooked and smartly presented seasonal dishes served by well-trained staff…The wine list is serious, and worth a long look…Pettavel’s large vegetable garden keeps the kitchen well-stocked.”

PETTAVEL APPRENTICE CHEF, KATE NIEWENHUIZEN WINS THIERRY MARX, CAREER DEVELOPMENT AWARD & OPPORTUNITY TO WORK IN FRANCE.

We are proud to announce that Pettavel second year Apprentice, Kate Niewenhuizen has been declared one of three winners of the 2008 Thierry Marx Career Development Award for Apprentice Chefs. This is also a great honour for Pettavel who for the second time running have had an apprentice chef win the award.

 

As a winner Kate won a once in a lifetime opportunity to travel to France and work for a month under the guidance and direction of celebrated French chef, Thierry Marx, at his two Michelin star restaurant at Château Cordeillan-Bages in Bordeaux. This years’ competition was hotly contested with double the number of entrants following the success of the 2007 inaugural event. As one of six finalists, Kate was assessed on her technical culinary skills and her interpersonal skills including attitude, passion, goals and aspirations. Each candidate also had to produce two original dishes for tasting and assessment.

 

Kate, who in addition to her passion for cooking is studying a Bachelor of Commerce at Deakin University, dreams of one day opening her own successful restaurant or business in the hospitality industry. We congratulate Kate on winning this prestigious award and wish her all the best in her future career. Her hard work and dedication to her profession have been duly rewarded.

PETTAVEL INDUCTED INTO THE TELSTRA COUNTRY WIDE GOLDEN PLATE AWARDS “HALL OF FAME”

At the 2007 Telstra Country Wide Golden Plate Awards, Pettavel Winery & Restaurant was inducted into the Hall of Fame, after taking home the overall Golden Plate Award in 2004, 2005 and 2006.

 

The Telstra Country Wide Golden Plate Awards are designed to recognise excellence within the hospitality industry in the Geelong region. The judging process, lead by The Herald Sun, food critic Stephen Downes, considers food quality and presentation, wine lists, customer service, ambience and overall value for money.  Over the past three years the judges have honoured Pettavel with the highest praise. “Yet again this restaurant shines with all the components that make it a truly great venue; exceptionally attentive and knowledgeable service; a kitchen that delivers technically brilliant and innovative fare and a wine list that perfectly complements the menu”.

Winning the inaugural “Hall of Fame” award is an immense honour for Pettavel Winery & Restaurant. Pettavel Front of House Manager, Caleb Fleet accepted the award, thanking staff for their dedication to providing exemplary service and an outstanding dining experience for all guests.
